Pleasant environment, nice atmosphere and peace are some of the key factors of successful treatment of patients who spend hours or days in the hospital. That is why a team of young volunteers led by Hana Pokorná, a student of Mendel University, decided to realize a project called Statues for health, thanks to which the hospital will obtain a “cultural oasis”. Starting from September 2013, four statues representing Sadness, Hope, Love and Happiness created by an artist from the Highlands Region Pavel Švanda will be permanently installed here. The statues will be supplemented with poems arisen from a literary competition for pupils and students of primary and secondary schools from Brno and its surroundings. At the end of the project, the statues will be donated to the University Hospital by the Statues for health project team. The project is supported by the Think Big programme implemented by the Telefónica foundation in cooperation with the Civil Society Development Foundation (Nadace rozvoje občanské společnosti).

“We hope that through this project we will contribute to patients feeling better during waiting for their examination or to making their hospitalization more pleasant thanks to a visit to the cultural niche where they can watch statues and read poems. The statues should also express thanks to the whole hospital staff for their often hopeless work and we hope that this piece of art in the hospital will bring them pleasure.”
